Lurene A. Barfield - Clerical Assistant

Lurene is a long time member of Galilee, joining in 1965, and has been active in numerous ministries of the church since that time.  She is a retired counselor. 

She graduated from Grambling State University with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Elementary Education (B.S.) and a Master of Education, with a concentration in Guidance and Counseling, from Prairie View A & M University. (M.Ed)    Lurene also received thirty plus certification in Counseling from Louisiana Tech University.  She has worked in the schools of Caddo Parish, Grambling State University and Bossier Community College.  Currently, she works as Office Assistant and gives special assistance to the Pastor.

Her greatest joys in life have come as wife of the late Deacon, Prince Barfield, Jr., being the mother of Princetta Barfield Johnson, and grandmother of  Leon S. Joyce W. Corner - Christian Education Director

A native of northwest Arkansas, who has resided most of her adult life in Shreveport, LA. She is a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) who served the students and families of the Caddo Parish School District for over two decades.

Joyce united with the Galilee Baptist Church in the sixties.  She has coordinated the Galilee Summer Youth Employment Program, given leadership as Church Training Director, Sunday School teacher, Children’s Department Coordinator, Vacation Bible School Director, etc.  In 1982, she was awarded the coveted  “Woman of the Year Award.”

In 1981, she began teaching in the National Baptist Congress of National Baptist Convention of America, Inc.  In 1994, she was appointed Children’s Department Coordinator of the National Baptist Youth Convention.  Joyce served as Associate Dean of the Baptist Missionary and Educational Convention of Louisiana, Inc.   Presently, she serves as Dean of Mount Hermon Baptist Association.

She is a graduate of the University of Arkansas Pine Bluff (B.S), Northwestern State University (M.Ed). Joyce also  completed thirty hours plus of continuing studies at the University of Colorado, Centenary College and Louisiana Tech University.  She is a silver member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.

God has blessed her to travel abroad to three Baptist World’s Conferences in Seoul, Korea,  Jerusalem, (Holy Land), Australia,  with side tours to Hong Kong,  Figi Islands, Egypt and Honolulu, Hawaii. 

She and her husband, Richard, are the proud parents of  a daughter (son-in-law)  and three Godchildren.

Sister Rose George reunited with the Galilee Baptist Church after retiring with twenty three years of service in the United States Army.  While in the army, she attended many military schools and received various decorations and awards.

She became a member of the Galilee Baptist Staff in January(2005).  She currently works as part of the administrative team.  Since her employment at Galilee, she has attended the Shreveport Community Development Certification Institute and the Faith Builders Program, where she received a Certificate of Completion in December (2005).

Sister George is the mother of two children: Tamara R. Lloyd and Ross E. George., and proud grandmother of five:  Cameron, Ethan, Thaddeus, Samuel, and India.

Hattie Wade - Music Ministry Director

 Sister Wade united with the Galilee Baptist Church after moving to Shreveport in 1967, and was  a former member of the First Baptist Church in Monroe, Louisiana .  She is the mother of three children and seven grandchildren. 

 Since being at Galilee, Sister Wade has served as a Sunday School Teacher, Mentor,  Youth Ministry Leader, Evangelism & Visitation Teams, Pianist/Organist, Director of the Male Chorus, Children and Youth Choirs and  now serves as Minister of Music for the Music Ministry.  She was awarded “Woman of  The  Year”  in 1984.

 An honor graduate of Grambling State University in Piano and Choral Music, Louisiana State University Shreveport, (M. Ed.), Louisiana Tech (Ruston)  and Temple Bible College & Seminary (DSM),  she is retired from the school systems of  Louisiana (Tensas Parish, Southern University & Caddo Parish).  Other studies include:  Centenary College Shreveport, Southern University and The Institute of Humanities (Boston, Massachusetts).  Sister Wade has served as Pianist/Organist for the National Baptist Convention of America, Inc., BM&E State Convention and on the Faculty of the Graduate Institute (The Black Church) in Geneva, Switzerland. She is a consultant for Seminars on True Worship and Music in The Church.

 Her Commitment:  teaching others to “worship God in spirit and in truth” and to be found faithful in doing all to the glory of God!
